HIIT effectively improves students' morphofunctional status during their studies, with most morphological and functional indicators significantly better in the 3rd and 4th instructional years compared to general physical training, and comparable to those practicing various sports.
Key Findings
Results
HIIT significantly improved most morphological and functional indicators of students compared to general physical training by the 3rd and 4th instructional years.
Significance levels ranged from p ≤ 0.05 to p ≤ 0.001 for comparisons between HIIT group and general physical training group
Improvements were most pronounced in the 3rd and 4th instructional years
The most significant effect of HIIT was improvement in body weight indicators and functioning of cardiovascular and respiratory systems
Morphofunctional status was assessed using height, body weight, lung vital capacity, hand dynamometry, heart rate, and blood pressure
Results
HIIT group indicators did not differ significantly from those of students practicing various sports.
Comparison between Group No. 1 (HIIT, n=27) and Group No. 2 (various sports, n=69) showed no significant differences (p > 0.05)
Group No. 2 practiced sports including sports games, martial arts, strength sports, athletics, swimming, and cycling
This suggests HIIT produces morphofunctional outcomes comparable to organized sport participation
Methods
The study involved 132 male students divided into three distinct physical activity groups.
Group No. 1 (n=27) performed high-intensity interval training (HIIT)
Group No. 2 (n=69) participated in various sports including sports games, martial arts, strength sports, athletics, swimming, and cycling
Group No. 3 (n=36) performed general physical training
Generalized morphofunctional status was assessed using the methodology developed by Ye. A. Pyrohova
Conclusions
HIIT was concluded to be effective for increasing motor activity and improving morphofunctional, physical, and mental health outcomes in students studying under martial law conditions.
The study was conducted at higher educational institutions under martial law conditions
HIIT was found effective alongside any kind of sport for improving morphofunctional status
Outcomes included improved physical and mental performance, strengthened somatic and mental health, and promotion of harmonious personal development
